About the AI Lab

The Presec 1999 eXperience Centre is a state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) lab established at Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (Presec – Legon) in Ghana. Designed to be a hub of innovation and excellence, the lab is equipped with advanced tools and resources to foster learning, creativity, and technological exploration.

The AI Lab empowers students to delve into emerging technologies, providing hands-on experience with AI systems, machine learning, robotics, and data science. It serves as a platform for students to develop critical problem-solving skills and prepare for the challenges of an increasingly digital world. With a curriculum tailored to inspire curiosity and innovation, the lab aims to produce future leaders in technology and science.

In line with global sustainability efforts, the facility operates with solar power, ensuring environmentally responsible functionality. This green energy solution reflects a commitment to both technological advancement and ecological stewardship.

The vision behind this transformative project was brought to life by a group of alumni from the 1999 graduating class of Presec – Legon, who reunited after 25 years with a shared mission to leave a lasting legacy at their alma mater. Their dedication, driven by gratitude and a passion for giving back, made the AI Lab a reality. Scheduled for completion and handover during Presec’s Speech and Prize Giving Day in November 2024, the lab stands as a symbol of their commitment to education, progress, and the limitless potential of the next generation.

About Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School (PRESEC)

Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), located in Legon, Accra, Ghana, is a premier all-male boarding institution renowned for its academic excellence and rich heritage. Established on 1st February 1938 by the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast, the school has a storied history that reflects its commitment to nurturing young minds.

History and Founding

The inception of PRESEC can be attributed to the efforts of the Basel missionary-theologian, Nicholas Timothy Clerk (1862–1961), who served as the first Synod Clerk of the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast from 1918 to 1932. He advocated for the establishment of a secondary school to provide quality education grounded in Christian principles. Initially, the school was situated in Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region, utilizing the premises of the old Basel Mission residence. In 1968, it relocated to its current site in Legon, Accra, to accommodate a growing student population and expand its facilities.

PRESEC’s guiding motto, “In Lumine Tuo Videbimus Lumen,” translates to “In Thy Light We Shall See Light.” This reflects the school’s dedication to illuminating the paths of its students through comprehensive education, moral integrity, and spiritual growth.
